Degrees and Certifications:

Well, hello there!

My name is Michelle Mawhiney. You may have also heard your student refer to me as Miss M or Miss Michelle. Last school year I was incredibly fortunate to be added to the Stratton family as the Comprehensive Student Support Model (CSSM) school counselor. I can not express how happy I am to work with the Stratton students, families, and staff, and how welcomed and connected I feel in such a short time.

When people ask where I am from I claim California as my "home". However, my father, my husband, and I all served in the Air Force so I moved a total of 22 times before settling in our current home. My husband, Will, and I have been married for 27 years. We have two incredible kids, Jaxon and Logan, and the very best furry best friend, Jet. I received my B.A. in Biology from UCCS and I completed an M.A. in School Counseling and an M.A. in Clinical Mental Health from University of Northern Colorado. My favorite things to do are travel and spend unstructured down time with my family. Sadly, now that our boys can drive, that doesn't happen nearly often enough anymore!

Stratton is my first full-time school counseling position. My counseling philosophy is student-centered and solution focused. I am passionate about creating a comprehensive counseling program based on the American School Counselor Association’s (ASCA) National Model and the Strengths-Based School Counseling framework that addresses the academic, career, and personal/social-emotional development of all students.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if I can be a support to you or your student. I genuinely look forward to getting to know each of our students and their families!
